Biltmore Estate Autumn Engagement Session

I’ve been to the Biltmore handfuls of times, but somehow each visit is even more lovely than the last. So getting to actually shoot there is always exciting! When Steven emailed me inquiring about his engagement session with Lacy, he mentioned that he’d be proposing on the grounds just a few days before!! Obviously, she said “yes” ;) We met up on a brisk November morning to wander around the beautiful Biltmore Estate before too many crowds started flooding in for the day. Which brings us to…

3 tips for planning a photo session at the Biltmore:

  1. Get permission in advance. It’s not difficult! Emailing the media office beforehand will give you the go-ahead for photographing on the grounds. There are a few rules to follow (like not photographing inside the house, of course). But otherwise, it’s an easy planning experience.

  2. Purchase admission tickets. Every person needs their own admission ticket to access the property, even if you are not going inside the house (which is totally worth doing after your photoshoot is done, though).

  3. Go early! The Biltmore is a huge tourist attraction, so there will likely be people in the background of many house shots if you go during busy hours. Arriving when the property first opens in the morning means you’ll be able to avoid a lot of the crowds!

Bonus: Don’t forget to visit the winery & restaurants afterwards, if you have time! You can make a whole day of exploring this beautiful place…
