Lago di Braies Wedding Locations

Now that you know how to get there and where to stay, let's talk about the best part - the most breathtaking spots for your wedding or elopement ceremony.

1. The Boathouse and Dock

The boathouse and dock at Lago di Braies are the most iconic wedding spot. Full information on how to rent the entire boathouse and dock location (with wooden rowboats included for your use!) for your private wedding ceremony is outlined in the next section of this guide. Scroll down to “Lago di Braies Boathouse Rental.”

2. The Lakeshore

A walking path winds around the entire lake, so you won't struggle to find multiple "lakeshore" options at Lago di Braies! The most common spot (and the location with the most room to spread out) is the beach area on the west side of the lake, just a short walk beyond the hotel. If you arrive early enough, you may have this epic viewpoint entirely to yourselves! It's a setting straight out of a fairytale.

3. The Chapel

There’s a small, fairytale-like chapel located right on the western shore the lake. Walk the super short path from the parking area past the hotel and over to the chapel, where you'll be greeted with even more impossibly picturesque views. This is a great photo-op to pair with the lakeshore.

4. The Meadows

For a more private setting after exploring the lake, trek over to a nearby scenic meadow. One of the best hidden gem meadow locations is a short distance off the main path that circles the lake (about a 45 minute walk from the main parking lot), and even has a mountain hut nearby for food and drinks.

These lush, green fields offer that peaceful and intimate atmosphere, with the mountains of the Dolomites (and some friendly alpine cows!) providing an otherworldly backdrop.

Lago di Braies Boathouse Rental

One of the most iconic features of Lago di Braies is its boathouse and collection of wooden rowboats. Renting the boathouse and dock area for a private wedding or elopement ceremony adds an incredibly unique and romantic touch to your wedding day in the Italian Dolomites.

Bonus: the full location private rental comes with access to the wooden rowboats, so you can paddle around the lake before or after your vows!

Imagine gliding across the vibrant blue waters with your partner after just saying "I do" in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Now that is a way to celebrate.

How to Book the Boathouse and Rowboats

The entire boathouse and dock area can be rented privately for your ceremony and photos, but only on certain dates throughout the year. Be sure to check these dates before you plan the rest of your elopement.

Time slots are exclusively offered in the morning, which is actually ideal for avoiding crowds in the background of your photos.

The full location private rental is €450 for 1.5 hours, and includes use of 2 wooden rowboats.

Tips for Getting Married at Lago di Braies

Here are some additional tips to make sure your big day at Lago di Braies goes off without a hitch!

Legal Requirements

Most American couples choose to do a symbolic ceremony in Italy, and complete their legal marriage paperwork in their home state. This tends to be the simplest and most stress-free option. If you prefer to do the legal paperwork while in Italy, be sure to research Italy's legal requirements for marriage in detail - there are a few extra hoops to jump through if you're a citizen of another country.

Season and Weather

The best time to plan your wedding is from May to September when the weather is warm and the lake is easily accessible. However, mid-summer (especially during the month of August) can be quite crowded, so consider a weekday for more privacy.

Hiring Local Vendors

Hiring local vendors is the best way to ensure a seamless elopement experience in the Dolomites. Local knowledge and insight is super valuable when planning a destination wedding, especially in a foreign country.

As a northern Italy-based elopement photographer, I love helping my couples with not only choosing their ceremony and photo locations, but also with finding other local vendors who will make their dream day a reality.
