Where to Elope in the Adirondacks | Upstate NY Elopement Photographer
*Newly updated for 2024*
So, you’re getting married in the Adirondacks?! Amazing choice.
The Adirondack park is such an incredible place to elope. It’s truly all beautiful, which means that the location options are plentiful. Big decision, right?
I’m here to take a little piece of that planning stress off of your shoulders. Here’s a rundown of some short scenic trails, epic longer treks, unique intimate venues and even some adventurous excursions to consider for your elopement day in the ADKs.
Idea #1
Hit the trails
EASY TRAILS
Myth: easier hike = less spectacular views.
This could not be any further from the truth! Especially in the Adirondack Park. Take a trek up one of these trails for jaw-dropping scenery and minimal effort. More time to relax at the top, anyone?
Rocky Mountain trail | Inlet
Mount Jo trail | Lake Placid
Shelving Rock trail | Lake George
Big Crow trail | Keene
There are so many others to explore, but I have to keep some secrets for my couples!
HARDER TRAILS
Make a full day of the celebration!
Indian Head trail | Keene Valley
Ampersand Mountain trail | Saranac Lake
Or, choose one of the 46 to tackle at sunrise, say your I do’s at 4000+ feet, and pop some champagne / pack a picnic lunch for your time at the summit. It will be SO worth it.

NO HIKING, JUST VIEWS
Whiteface Mountain | Drive up the Veteran’s Memorial Highway to some wildly beautiful views atop the Whiteface Mountain summit, all without any actual hiking. *Note that as of 2023, all photo sessions and ceremonies require a paid booking.
Marcy Field | Say your vows nestled beneath the dramatic mountains, and then wander across the road to the Ausable River for a quick change of scenery (and maybe to dip your feet in).
Cascade Lakes | Dramatic mountains, rock cliffs, and two side-by-side lakes joined by a beach day use area. Oh, and a waterfall in the distance. No big deal!
Book a private mountain ceremony spot at Scott’s Cobble Weddings for micro-weddings.
Idea #2
An intimate venue
Make a getaway weekend out of your big day, or invite your very closest family and friends to join in on the celebrations! (Elopements don’t just have to be the two of you).
An intimate venue in the Adirondacks will serve as your elopement weekend hub - a cozy place to get ready, head outdoors for a scenic ceremony, maybe come inside for a small sit-down dinner, and so much more. Here are just a few local favorites:
Lake Placid Stagecoach Inn | Lake Placid
Bark Eater Inn | Keene
Eastwind Hotel | Lake Placid
Mirror Lake Inn | Lake Placid
Warner’s Camp | Upper Jay
Great Pines | Old Forge
Garnet Hill Lodge | North River
The Mountain House | Keene Valley
Or, rent a unique AirBnb for just the two of you.
Idea #3
Unique excursions
Ready for an extra unique adventure!? Heck yes.
Imagine this. You wake up on your elopement morning in a cozy cabin tucked in the forest. After a relaxing early morning, you meet your photographer (hey there!) at the helicopter base to take off into the Adirondacks. You’ve chartered the helicopter for a full day, so the pilot flies you to the backcountry.
You land in a peaceful, secluded little sliver of wilderness - maybe right in the mountains, or on an island in the middle of a remote lake. After the I do’s, you unpack a picnic, pop open the champagne (or beverages of choice!) and spend time exploring this amazing place.
Sounds pretty epic, right?
